Link Love: DIY Swiffer Covers
The Girl on a Budget has searched high and low for a craft project to show some love to, and she has found it! Each year, I look forward to doing some spring cleaning. I give away clothing, shoes or other items I don’t use. I also take the time to thoroughly clean my home, which includes hours of sweeping, mopping and getting rid of those pesky dust bunnies. I happen to love using my swiffer, but I hate having to buy refills, new cloths, etc… The seemingly psychic (I swear they know when I need a DIY project) bloggers at Dollar Store Crafts posted an article on how to “Make Reusable Swiffer Covers.” This craft is easy to do, and they’ve included a step-by-step pictorial of how to make the covers.
What will you be “swiffer-ing” this spring?

Pinterest Friday: Birthday Candles
It’s Pinterest Friday, and the Girl on a Budget has another fun craft for the weekend. I have a few friends with upcoming birthdays, and I like to buy them cute, decorated cupcakes. After I buy the cupcake, I go to the store and start looking for candles. Most candles are in basic, boring colors and have no spunk to them. I always think, “These cupcakes are so cute. I don’t want to put these ugly candles on top of them.” (I know, this is a girl thing.) Well, the the lovely bloggers at Dollar Store Crafts shared an ingenious way to bring a little life to birthday candles. There are no specific directions, but you will need:
- Birthday Candles
- Hot glue gun
- Jewels, glitter, etc…
Once you’ve gathered the necessary materials, apply a small amount of glue to the area you’d like to place a jewel, etc…repeat this process until the candle is covered.

Link Love: Duct Tape Feather Earrings
It’s Tuesday, and that means it’s time for the Girl on a Budget to show a little link love! Today I found a D-I-Y on how to make “Duct Tape Feather Earrings” via the Hello Brit blog. I know that duct tape can be used to seal boxes and in extreme cases, keep a car door from falling off, but I never thought of using it to make earrings. To complete this project, you will need:
- Colored Duct Tape
- X-acto Knife
- Wire
- Earring findings
First, take the duct tape and roll it out based on how long you want the earrings to be. Second, cut the duct tape, fold it in half and draw a feather shape on the tape. Take the X-acto knife and start cutting along the outline. Next, take the wire and wrap it along the top of your feather. Lastly, take the earring hook and fasten it to the wire. This craft is easy to do and allows plenty of room for creativity.
Would you wear duct tape earrings?

Pinterest Friday: St. Patrick’s Day Chocolate Chip Cookies
The Girl on a Budget has found a delicious treat via Pinterest for all the St. Patrick’s Day enthusiasts out there! St. Patrick’s Day is one of my favorite holidays (minus the required pinch if you don’t wear green) and I always try to find different ways to celebrate each year. This year I’ll be making “St. Patrick’s Day Chocolate Chip Cookies” from Jackie on the “In La La Land” blog. The recipe calls for a cookie mix of your choice and the usual ingredients of sugar, eggs, flour, milk and salt. Once the essential ingredients are mixed together, add green food coloring. Be careful not to put in too much, or the flavoring will be off. Place your cookies in the oven to bake for 20 mins. and voila!, your St. Patrick’s Day cookies are done.
Would you eat green cookies?
